We have just taken delivery of a small number of Raleigh Motus Tours in size 46cm with Hub Gears.
This model has been out of stock for some time and it’s nice to have back with us.
Price for the Motus Tour Hub Geared model is £2300.
Hub Gears have a number of advantages over derailleur gears. Most useful being, you can change a hub gear while the bike is stopped/stationery. You also don’t have the external mechanism of a derailleur geared bike. Hub gears can provide easier, or less maintenance than derailleur gears as the chain isn’t having to jump between the cogs and does not need to be adjusted as often.
On the other hand, derailleur gears do also offer advantages over hub gears – for example, removing the rear wheel is easier and the bike is lighter as the hub weighs more than a derailleur geared bike. Not a big issue when it comes to ebikes as you’ve got lots of power to mitgate this relatively small additional weight.
In our experience, hub gears can offer riders an easier, cleaner ride as you don’t have the external mechanisms to worry about and the chain is not having to change/jump between each sprocket.
