Batavus Dutch Ebikes

This year we're pleased to introduce two exciting new Ebikes to the UK and Irish Markets built by Batavus in the Netherlands, the Batavus E-Go Genova and the Batavus E-Go BuB.

Many of our existing customers will be familar with the Batavus BuB, this being the all-new model built by Batavus a couple of years ago which has obtained a sort of cult status in the Netherlands for being trendy, fun and exciting to ride. It's a fun bike with the frame design based on a paper-clip. Well it's now available as an ebike so you can enjoy longer rides, or cycle more easily on those hills or against those headwinds. Before we look at the E-Go BuB, let's take a tour of the Batavus E-Go Genova.

The Batavus E-Go Genova - 7 Speed - step-through model.

The above picture is the first imported Genova to the UK and is available for demonstration, viewing and test-riding at our Littlehampton showroom. We;ve spent the last week test riding this Dutch bike together with the Batavus E-Go BuB and these two bikes really do offer those looking for a quality electric assisted bike with something really worth considering.

Some of the features include:

  • 240w electric motor by SANYO
  • Lithium lightweight battery - just 2kgs carried in the rear carrier, which still allows you to use the carrier for taking panniers, luggage etc.
  • Battery range up to 50miles depending on assistance used, weight of rider, weather conditions, terrain etc.
  • Battery guaranteed for 2 years and frame guaranteed for 10 years
  • 7 Speed Shimano Nexus Hub Gears - (an 8 speed model is also available)
  • Front and rear battery operated lights
  • Side stand
  • Front V-Brakes with a shimano power modulator and rear Shimano roller brakes
  • Front suspension
  • Easy adjust handlebar system which allows you
  • Gel Sprung comfort saddle by Selle Royal or San Marco
  • Integral frame lock by Trelock
  • Lightweight alloy 7005 frame
  • Powder coated paint finish using only eco-friendly paints
  • Stainless steel spokes and alloy rims
  • Anti-puncture protection layer tyres in smart grey colour to enhance appearance
  • Brakes  - front V Brake with a Shimano Power Modulator and a Rear Coaster Brake which is often commonly referred to as a 'back pedal brake' in the UK.

Easy Adjust handlebar system - note the open lever which when open allows you to adjust the handlebars anywhere from down to up and anywhere in between thus allowing you to achieve the most perfect riding position unique to you. When you're happy with the position - simply close the lever and your in position.

Control Display - As you can see you have two displays - the one on the left allows you by press of the + or - sign to increase or reduce the assistance of the motor. While the second display monitors the battery power levels. Note also on the handlebar grip you have a throttle. In the Netherlands the use of a bicycle powered without cycling at the same time as riding is not allowed, therefore all Dutch ebikes are what is known as pedal-assist, which means they assist you while you pedal. The throttle in this instance is used/available as what is known as a 'walk mode' so when you're walking the bike, you can avail of assistance.

Battery fits into the rear cage which is built as part of the rear carrier allowing you to remove easily. It's locked in place and opened by using the keys supplied. The battery is light at only 2kgs and can easily be carried around and you can plug in and charge in any coffee shop/point offering electric charging facilities.

The Batavus E-Go Genova is a stylish, super comfortable easy-to-ride bicycle designed and built by Batavus, The Netherland's leading bicycle manufacturer. There is also a crossbar version of this bike and an 8 speed model also. The 8 speed models won't be coming into production until around March 2012.

The Batavus E-Go BUB

The BuB E-Go is all about fun, style and eletrically assisted power. The non-electric BuB has a very loyal and seemingly ever increasing following. Certainly as soon as we have stock of it, the BuB sells out within a few weeks. So this year, we have the Electric Assist version of BuB. We've tried out over the past week and had great fun on this nifty, super-comfy bike. Certainly the electric assist adds not only a new dimension but will give this bike wider appeal particularly those are specifically looking for an electric bike.

The E Go BuB is available in two styles, a step-over as above and a crossbar version.

We love the version pictured above as we believe it's more quirky and stylish than the crossbar version. It's also nice to see the paper-clip frame design and the amazing way the 7005 lightweight alloy frame has been manufactured to allow those amazing, eye-catching curves.

The Key Features of the E Go BuB include:

  • 240 wt electric motor by SANYO
  • Lightweight lithium battery - at only 2kg and with a large range of up to 40 miles depending on conditions, weight of the rider etc
  • 3 Speed Shimano Nexus Hub Gears
  • Lightweight 7005 alloy frame
  • Front and rear battery powered lights powered by the rear carrier battery.
  • Stainless steel spokes
  • Abus frame lock
  • Extra-wide tyres for extra comfort with an inbuilt anti-puncture protection layer.
  • fully enclosed chain case
  • side stand
  • rear carrier which can take luggage, panniers etc as well as housing the battery
  • Pedal assist motors with a low and high assist setting which is easy to adjust to suit your changing riding conditions.
The E Go BuB has an attractive rear light which runs off the main battery. When you insert the key into the keyhole in the rear facia of the bike carrier, the whole facia folds down allowing you to slide out the battery. Battery is light and small enough for you to carry around and take into a coffee shop for charging.

The E-Go BuB is a stunning, easy-to-ride, super-comfortable electric assist Dutch Bicycle.
