A superb new trekking bicycle from Batavus.

Overview-

All new for 2009, is the Batavus Apache Deluxe - a super all-round quality, Batavus bicycle that will appeal to those who love the idea of riding a quality built bicycle, but want a cross-over behind the traditional upright ride of a typical Dutch bike, and a more conventional trekking bike.

The frame geometry on the Apache has been carefully designed to allow the rider to avail of the best of both worlds - as far as it is possible - in that you're not bolt upright as in the more traditional Dutch bike, but you're also not leaning over as much as on a mountain bike.

If you're considering choosing a possible touring/commuting bike and you want the benefit of 24 speeds, the Apache will tick all the boxes.

Batavus Apache Deluxe Ladies.

Some pictures of my own personal Batavus Apache Deluxe together with a set of Vaude Panniers follow. I use my Apache Deluxe to commute daily from my home in Littlehampton to our Brighton shop - a 24 mile one-way/ 48 mile daily round trip. It's a pleasure to ride and at 15.7 kilograms (weight includes the AXA defender lock, Batavus side stand, chain case and so on) this bike is remarkably light and given it's factory built in the Netherlands, at £799 it represents excellent value.

Handlebars can be adjusted by using an allen key (key not supplied). Thus the riding position can be altered from upright, to leaning forward and anywhere in between.

Rear Carrier/rack is ideal for taking panniers or strapping cargo to without panniers. The rack includes a rear battery light, elastic restraining straps and a cycle pump. If you closely at the way the carrier is attached, you'll see the 'bridge' coming from the frame. This device, which Batavus use for attaching all their rear racks allows you to position your rear carrier so it's literally spirit level flat.

The crossbar (and with the step-through) the bar is angled as opposed to tubular, which gives a really nice finish and breaks away from the usual generic bicycle design. Note the attention to the welding points. This superb finish is what makes all Batavus models stand out from the crowd.

The front of the Apache - you can see the front battery lighting and the Shimano V brakes with the Shimano Power modulator attached. The power modulator makes for better braking. Note that the V brakes are branded Shimano. So you're not getting some sprurious V Brakes, but the genuine thing. The white cable ties below the brakes are for my cycle computer. You can see also  in this picture, the way the cables (breaks and gears) are fed through the frame, which is a nice touch.

All of the Shimano parts on the Apache Deluxe are Shimano Alivio - you can see here the cranks branded 'Shimano Alivio', which will include the crank set.

Apache Deluxe - This model is my own personal bicycle and the extras which wouldn't come as standard include - cycle computer, Vaude Panniers, water cage.

Quick release wheel mechs, front and rear. And, as you can see the hub is Shimano.
