The Personal bike is a fun, practical 3 or 7 speed bicycle, which as the name suggests is personal to you. Each bicycle comes with own frame number visible and built into the frame to deter thefts.
This bicycle is a favourite all over Holland and throughout Europe with cycle hire companies including CenterParcs holiday company and TNT Delivery in Holland.
Last year this bike was only available in a 54cm frame with a 26" wheel. This year it's available in a 59cm frame with a 26" wheel (ideal for tall people) and also a 49 cm frame with an especially low step-through frame (ideal for smaller people)
A little bit of history as to how the Personal bike came into production.
When you buy a Batavus in Holland and you subsequently take it for service, you can avail of a courtesy bike for a small charge. the obvious advantage of this to you is that you get a replacement bike while yours is off the road. Sadly, human nature as it is, there are some who saw this as an opportunity to swap an old (often stolen) Batavus for a nice new courtesy bike for only a few Euros. With the result that the cycle dealers weren't keen on keeping the service going. So Batavus introduced the Personal bike, which with each bike coming with its own unique identity number was an instant hit. Initially the Personal bike wasn't for sale to the general public, however fairly soon the customers were impressed with the bikes abilities naturally wanted to buy it for themselves and thus the Personal Bike became available to the public. Since then it's proved a huge hit with all sorts of customers including cycle hire companies and so on. It's gives a great fun practical ride and it's got that all important built in number in the event your bike was ever stolen, you can easily claim it back.
